Becoming a parent in a Pandemic

In these current times with a global pandemic it is easy to succumb to fear, anxiety and worry. I have recently become a parent for the first time to my daughter Bethany and this unusual shape we all find ourselves in was not what I thought my maternity leave would look like with her. Social distancing, reducing contact with family and friends, and being stuck indoors unable to ignore the ever growing pile of laundry (who new someone so small could generate so much dirty laundry!)

Being a new parent when there isn’t a pandemic can be anxiety inducing at the best of times, as you grapple with the responsibility of keeping a little one alive! Any slight sniffle can send you into panic mode.

In light of the current global situation I don’t know what the future is going to look like for my little girl and that can be an unsettling thought as well. 

What I do know and have confidence in, is that we have access to a relationship with Father God through Jesus, who is our perfect parent and cares for us with unconditional love. 

My baby girl is currently asleep in my arms after stirring in her cot,  blissfully unaware of what is happening in the world. She is at rest and I would add peace. This is the same place Father God wants us to be, at rest and peace in his arms, knowing He’s got us, He will meet all our needs, He is in control, all our days are ordained by Him and are a beautiful gift from Him. 

It’s easy as a new parent to feel it’s all on you to raise your child but Father God wants us, the adults, to completely rely on Him and be dependent on Him. That as He meets our needs and sustains us, we receive everything we need from Him to meet the needs of our child/children. 

Ultimately, our child/children are in Father God’s complete care and control, He created life and entrusted us to nurture and raise them, but they are His. He does not slumber or sleep, so in the darkness of the night He is watching over our children and us, working on our behalf and preparing our tomorrows. 

Let’s press on in these uncertain times with a childlike faith, trusting our futures and our children’s future to the perfect Parent, who will keep us in perfect peace and wholeness as we set our minds on Him.
