We’re putting on a event, The Cross Rhythms Plymouth Showcase!!! We’ll be bringing you a taste of all things Cross Rhythms on a night of live music by excellent local artists Our Atlantic Roots and Will Allen, live poetry by Steve Wheeler (as featured on the radio) and an inspiring interview with Rob Fowler based off a recent radio interview.

There is no charge for the evening though Cross Rhythms Plymouth is a charity run station and so on the night there will be opportunities to sign up to our mailing list to hear more about our work and donate as a one off or become a regular supporter should you so wish!

OUR ATLANTIC ROOTS

Mac and Laura Johnston, ‘Our Atlantic Roots’, fuse together poetic and beautifully authentic lyrics with incredibly tight harmonies. The blend of their vocals make it almost unbelievable that they are individually from countries that are thousands of miles apart, with Mac originally from North Carolina, USA and Laura from Yorkshire, UK.

The transatlantic, husband-wife duo now live in Cornwall (the wild Atlantic south-west coast of England) but spend much of their time travelling across the UK, sharing their songs and stories with audiences in an abundance of settings, from theatres to festivals, in barns, bars and even on beaches!

WILL ALLEN

There are enough sad songs in the world to bring you to your knees, and enough cheesy songs make you forget about it; Will Allen writes songs that help you face it.

Growing up in church, music has always been a part of his life, and always been a tool to inspire hope. He started writing songs at 14 to help him get through life, and started gigging and recording at uni to share his stories with anyone who’d listen.

He’s is a Plymouth-based, indie-pop singer-songwriter writing honest songs that are a therapy unto himself and an inspiration to others. Often compared to the likes of Ed Sheeran and James Bay; Will’s tunes will get stuck in your head and make you dance in the rain.

Steve Wheeler

Writer, speaker, artist, musician – is there anything this boy can’t do? Well, for a kick-off, he can’t swim, he can’t dance and he’s rubbish at herding cattle. Steve is a former university lecturer, qualified teacher and psychologist (don’t even ask).

Steve became a Christian in 1973, at the height of the UK Jesus Movement, and was soon on the CCM circuit, writing and playing his own brand of rock and roll.

When they first met in 1982, Chris Cole (Cross Rhythms founder) told Steve about his vision for media, and the idea about a Christian radio show. They were soon working together, using Steve’s large collection of vinyl records to produce a show on local radio station Plymouth Sound. It was originally titled The Solid Rock of Jesus Christ, and exclusively played Contemporary Christian Music. The rest, as they say, is history as Solid Rock eventually became Cross Rhythms.
