Ian Pilkington
Role at Cross Rhythms Plymouth: Ian is the presenter of the Community Matters programme and has been involved with the radio since 2007, as a Trustee and Director from 2007 – 2019, and on air since 2010. He has served Cross Rhythms festival, radio and magazine since the early 90s.
About: Ian lives in Plymouth with his wife Karen and the youngest three of their seven (yes, seven) children. As well as his role with Cross Rhythms, Ian is the Managing Director of Cornerstone Vision, publishing community newspapers and magazines for Plymouth and surrounding area. He’s lived in the city for 50 of his 55 years and loves supporting the good stuff that is going on. When he gets time he enjoys gardening, fishing, Dartmoor walks, camp fires and food. Mostly meat. Which is a challenge to his increasingly vegan family.
Faith Testimony: Ian came to faith in Christ as his only hope out of a depressingly downward spiralling lifestyle, during a year he spent living and working on Drake’s Island in 1988/89. He read the gospel of Luke in the Good News New Testament, phoned a friend (seriously) who he knew was a Christian and spent a few months having ‘church’ with his mate in the nearest Plymouth pub where they played pool, talked about Jesus and listened to U2 on the jukebox. Church, Christian community, marriage, children, mental health issues, restoration, children, purpose, direction, hope and children all followed. The last thirty-plus years have convinced him of the goodness of God, who he says has been with him in the darkest hours and given him the greatest joy he has ever known. His favourite quote regarding the Christian faith is from 2nd century theologian St Irenaeus: “The glory of God is a human being fully alive!” Ian continues to be made more alive by God and less like his old self – his wife and children appreciate that.
Favourite Food: There really isn’t enough room here. If we have to narrow it down, it’s any ‘special’ meal he can cook himself from a Jamie Oliver recipe and share with his family.
Fun Fact: If he’s having toast, his preferred methodology is three pieces of hand cut malted granary, cooked to ‘just starting to burn’, butter on each slice and then coated with honey, peanut butter, and peanut butter with honey, always eaten in order 1 = peanut butter. 2 = honey. 3 = peanut butter with honey.
