Big Give Christmas Challenge 2024

They say money makes the world go round…

While I don’t know about that, it is an ongoing part of everyones lives. Here at the radio station you can appreciate there are many costs in running the station you know and love.

So this Christmas we are running a fundraising campaign so we can keep doing what we do. Bringing great radio, music and content right into your homes, cars or wherever you listen to us.

Since 2020 we’ve been steadily growing in many ways…

We made a new website in 2020 with an improved look, better listen again and live online radio functions.

We stepped up our content on social media developing our Facebook page more in 2021/22. We also launched our YouTube channel, Instagram and TikTok accounts in the last 18 months to reach more people and share more content.

We renovated our studio over the last couple of years and installed cameras to film our radio interviews. Allowing you to watch the interviews back on our YouTube channel or watch highlight reels on our socials.

This year we’ve launched the Hope and the City podcast with Emma Marlow and Rob Fowler. Which you can listen to on all your favourite podcasting platforms as well as on Cross Rhythms. We’re already getting feedback from listeners that it is positively impacting their lives and helping to bring them real hope in the face of the challenges in their lives. 

We ran our first live Showcase event this year, bringing Cornish based Our Atlantic Roots to the city for a live performance as well showcasing the talents of Plymouth singer songwriter Will Allen.

We’ve continued our programming going out 24/7 on FM, online and now on DAB, which we brought forward in response to the recent FM antenna fault. A huge thank you to all those who supported our recent Crowdfunder to assist us in getting the DAB broadcast set up. 

We continue to host great interviews on the radio and our YouTube channel. From Community Matters with Ian, showcasing some incredible charities throughout Plymouth and the work they do. To Life Stories with Dave, sharing the amazing real life stories of his guests. As well as our intern Luke, interviewing some of the amazing artists we play on the station in Artist Interviews.

All of this is being done by 2 x part time staff members as well as our part time intern from South West Youth Ministries and many amazing volunteers. 

The Funds

We’ve been blessed with support from a number of grant making trusts in recent years to enable this growth and we’re continuing to apply to these funding sources for support. Their support is never guaranteed however and, as you’ll appreciate their funding periods naturally come to an end from time to time. This has been the case for one trust who has given us £12,000 for the last 2 x years but isn’t able to into 2025.

Plus with the recent failure of our FM antenna, being a major unforeseen expense. Requiring new parts and hire of a cherry picker to fix. As well as more work to be done to it to fix it more permanently.

These are just some of the reasons, alongside normal running costs, why we are running a Christmas fund raising campaign.

What you can do…

From midday on the 3rd December to midday the 10th, we are running the Big Give Christmas Challenge. We have a wonderful donor who will match fund £1250 and Big Give have given us a Champion in The Together Fund who will match an extra £1250 on top! That’s an amazing £2500 in match funding we can get bringing us to £5000 which will help us grow more in 2025!
